Understanding private companies is difficult. Like many private equity funds, Kamylon’s diligence process requires a team of analysts to meticulously sift through thousands of unstructured legal, financial, and management documents, to understand if they want to make an investment.

In this case study, we’ll share how Kamylon uses Velos to research each of their target companies in detail – accelerating their investment process so they can work faster and drive deeper insights.

PROBLEM

Before Velos: The document analysis challenge

Before working with Velos, Kamylon’s due diligence process was largely manual and hindered their ability to grow their portfolio.

Kamylon runs a lean team of just under 15 employees, and during any given year, their team analyzes anywhere from 500 to 1,000 companies. The process of analyzing if a company passes to the next step of the process, takes an analyst about a week, or roughly 50 hours.

Tom Lavin, the Managing Principal at Kamylon, has been a part of Kamylon’s diligence process for over 12 years and oversees a team of both offshore and onshore analysts.

“As private equity investors, much of our work involves processing and analyzing large volumes of detailed company data,” Tom notes. “In practice, that means digging through hundreds of spreadsheets, financial statements, and operational reports to build a clear picture of a business.

To manage that scale, we built an offshore team to help process the volume. It allowed us to extend our capacity, but it also came with tradeoffs—significant time spent on training, maintaining consistency, and ensuring quality across every diligence cycle.”

And even with the addition of an offshore team, keeping up with the volume remained a constant challenge. As datasets grew in both size and complexity, the process became harder to manage, increasing the risk of inconsistencies and human error.

SOLUTION

After Velos: Automatic company enrichment

Today, Kamylon has built a complex workflow that automates their diligence process into a set of best practices for an AI workforce to follow at scale.

Since partnering with Velos, we've significantly increased the speed of data processing and analysis. This has allowed us to make critical investment decisions more efficiently and effectively, improving our decision-making speed without compromising our diligence quality.”

Velos’s platform allows Kamylon to analyze thousands of documents in minutes without compromising on attention to detail. This frees up their analysts to evaluate a larger volume of companies in more detail.

Today, the due diligence process is no longer considered a bottleneck to growth and Kamylon has been able to reduce their need to hire additional analysts as their portfolio scales.

With Velos handling the operational complexity of reviewing documents, Kamylon’s team now spends its time identifying more growth opportunities and optimizing investments.

Outcomes:

  • Time savings: 5,000 hours saved annually or 30 hours saved per deal, on average

  • Faster Diligence: 10x increase in deals reviewed

  • Cost savings: No longer needed to hire more full-time analysts
